WAR MEMORIAL FUND OPEN
Local not-for-profit organisations and local councils can now apply for funding to refresh and renew community war memorials, with the NSW Government’s Community War Memorials Fund open.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said ANZAC Day is a special reminder of the importance of war memorials throughout the region.
“Anzac Day is a solemn day on which we gather alongside memorials right across the region to commemorate the service of those who fought to protect our way of life,” Mr Anderson said.
“War memorials are at the centre of our remembrance and serve as a permanent reminder of the sacrifice of generations of Australians.
“That’s why it’s so important that funds are made available to the community groups who care for and maintain our community memorials, because without them, we lose touch with a significant part of our nation’s story.”
Grants are available to cover projects like conservation assessments, honour roll repair, environmental advice, cleaning, and repairs to war memorial halls.
A range of organisations including not-for-profits and local councils can apply.
“I’m inviting organisations responsible for the upkeep of these memorials to apply for up to $15,000 in funding to ensure that we are able to continue the tradition of commemorating Anzac Day for generations,” Mr Anderson added.
“Previous rounds of funding have seen memorials in Manilla, Gunnedah, Werris Creek, Tamworth, Barraba and Attunga preserved and I want to see more funding dedicated to our war memorials.”
