NOMINATE A LOCAL SENIOR TODAY

Seniors who give back to their community, put others above themselves, and chip in to make our community a better place to live can be recognised for their efforts as part of the 2023 NSW Seniors Festival Local Achievement Awards.

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson urged the community to get their nominations in to celebrate the work and achievements of an outstanding local senior.

“Volunteer organisations, not-for-profits and community groups in our region would not be able to do the great work they do without hard working seniors in our community,” Mr Anderson said.

“I know there are countless unsung heroes in our communities who always show up and do their bit on behalf of their community and this is a fantastic opportunity to give them the recognition they deserve.

Winners of the Local Achievement Awards will be announced during the NSW Seniors Festival which runs from 1 – 12 February 2023. The awards program is part of an exciting schedule of events across the state.

It is the largest festival for seniors in the Southern Hemisphere and enables older people to engage with each other, their community, services and supports.

Minister for Seniors, Mark Coure, said the festival and the awards are key initiatives in the NSW Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting seniors.

“This annual festival is about celebrating the positive impact of older people in our families and society,” Mr Coure said.

“We are building a brighter future for NSW, where seniors experience the benefits of living longer, while being able to contribute, be included, and actively participate in their communities.”

It is one of many initiatives the NSW Government promotes to support the state’s seniors in living happy, healthy and active lives.

“We will continue to challenge ageism and empower seniors to overcome social stigmas by highlighting their continued efforts in helping communities thrive,” Mr Coure added.
