ANDERSON WINS COMMITMENT TO DELIVER GUNNEDAH HOSPITAL IN FULL
With the NSW Budget on the horizon, Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has won a commitment that the full master plan for the Gunnedah Hospital will be delivered.
Mr Anderson said the Labor Government have now revealed plans to deliver the full master plan at a later time, when funding becomes available.
“The $53 million Gunnedah Hospital redevelopment is critically important to the future of healthcare in Gunnedah and surrounds,” Mr Anderson said.
“That’s why it was devastating for the community to learn last July that the Government had rescoped the redevelopment, scrapping a major part of the planned work.
“Since that time, I have been working with the community to lobby the Labor government, calling on them to stage the redevelopment so that important specialist services that were included in the original plans, could be delivered.
“This includes services like renal and chemotherapy, which will make a real difference to patients in Gunnedah, ending the practice of travelling to Tamworth for treatment.
“I have now been advised in writing that “the revised scope of works was prioritised the ensure the full master plan could be delivered at a later time, subject to additional funding being made available.”
“With the government now making a commitment, I’m pushing to ensure that important specialist services like renal and chemotherapy are delivered in any future plans.
“In the meantime, work on the redevelopment will begin very soon and deliver a contemporary inpatient unit, maternity and birthing, emergency department and a refurbished entry.
“I am continuing to keep a close eye on the development, ensuring the government delivers the hospital the community expects and deserves.”
