Tamworth, Moonbi and Kootingal residents will soon find it easier to walk, run and cycle around the city thanks to the NSW Government’s $110 million Get NSW Active program.

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said Tamworth Regional Council has received a $690,000 in NSW Government funding to help promote active lifestyles and community safety.

“We are building better footpaths and cycleways in Tamworth and significant NSW Government funding continues to flow, delivering better connections through our great city,” Mr Anderson said.

Some of the projects funded in the Tamworth Regional Council area are:

• $480,550 for the construction of the Victoria Park Shared Path
• $55,000 for the design of the Kootingal to Moonbi Shared Path
• $55,000 for the design of the Moore Creek Shared Path
• $54,450 for the design of the Forest Road Shared Path
• $45,000 for the design of the Calala to CBD Recreational Path

“This announcement is latest in a string of NSW Government funded paths around Tamworth including the Kent Street Shared Path and the Riverside Shared Pathway project. Tamworth is quickly becoming a haven for walkers, joggers and cyclists and I know that our active locals will be looking forward to exploring new routes.”

Tamworth Region Mayor Russell Webb has welcomed the further investment in the local shared path network.

“It takes significant time to adequately plan and design these types of infrastructure projects – it’s great to see the NSW Government recognise this and provide funding for this purpose,” he said.

Minister for Active Transport Rob Stokes said there were hundreds of applications for Get NSW Active across the State.

“More than $40 million in funding for projects right across NSW will provide families with choice on how they’re going to get to school or work, their local park or shops or even the beach, giving them the chance to leave the car at home and leave more money in hip-pockets,” Mr Stokes said. 

“The evidence is clear that investing in Active Transport infrastructure makes local communities happier, healthier and more productive.”
