LIFE SAVING DEFIB INSTALLED AT TAMWORTH PISTOL CLUB
A life-saving piece of medical equipment is now on site at the Tamworth Pistol Club giving members and their families confidence that the club has the tools they need to save a life.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said having a defibrillator on site saves lives and congratulated the Tamworth Pistol Club on the move.
“I’m a big advocate for having defibrillators on site at every sporting club, recreation ground, and public space across our region,” Mr Anderson said.
“We have seen firsthand how important it is for sporting clubs to have this life-saving equipment on site, after a person’s life was saved following cardiac arrest on a local hockey field a few years ago.
“Doctors say that the first eight minutes of a heart attack are critical, which is why it’s so important to have quick access to a defibrillator whenever possible.
“It’s a great move for the club to install this incredibly important piece of medical equipment, and I congratulate the board, and the members on another successful grant application.”
Club spokesman and Club Captain David Fergus was pleased to see this important medical device on the range as it improved the chances of surviving a cardiac episode and is a vital piece of kit for any club.
“It is a worthwhile addition to any large gathering of people and Club meetings where meetings are held regularly,” Mr Fergus said.
“The defibrillator is fully automatic and instantly available and will have a significant impact in the case of a medical emergency arising.
“Training will be available to club members who may be unfamiliar with the unit to ensure that the club is prepared if anyone ever needs help.”
The defibrillator is now in place at the club following funding from the NSW Government’s Safe Shooting Program 2024/25.
