KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF OUR SENIORS TRAVEL CARD

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson is calling on the Labor Government to continue the important Regional Seniors Travel Card program.

Mr Anderson said the program was important to local seniors who rely on the $250 pre-paid travel card to get to and from appointments, social outings, and to see family.

"Four years ago, the NSW Nationals fought for the Regional Seniors Travel Card, following representations from grassroots party members who were concerned that the tyranny of distance was negatively affecting regional seniors," Mr Anderson said.

"We know how difficult it can be for seniors to stay connected to the community as mobility increasingly becomes an issue and they give up their driving licence.

"That's why we pushed so hard to come up with a solution for regional NSW, where public transport is not always available.

"The Regional Seniors Travel Card has become hugely popular in the electorate with thousnds claiming their vouchers to get to appointments, and to see families.

"It appears that the Labor Government are destined to cut the card as part of their slash and bash campaign for regional areas.

"This would be devastating for our seniors which is why I raised some urgent questions with the Minsiter for Regional Transport and Roads.

"She is yet to respond, but she can't ignore our community's voice forever and I'll continue to fight for our travel card!"
