COWBOYS KICK OFF NEW SEASON UNDER LIGHTS

After a strong start to the season on the road in Narrabri, the Dungowan Cowboys Rugby League Club return home this weekend to continue their campaign to go one better than last year’s runner up result.

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the club were more motivated and better drilled than ever thanks to new lighting now installed at their home ground, the Dungowan Recreation Ground.

“The Dungowan Cowboys is a very special club who have been punching above their weight in recent years with the strong backing of the Dungowan community,” Mr Anderson said.

“It was pretty special to see Cowboys host the Grand Final last year. The community were out in force supporting the boys and even though the club missed out on the silverware, there was plenty to be proud of for the Dungowan community.

“The Dungowan Cowboys are going to be a force in this years competition and I know they have been training harder for longer ahead of the season now that new LED lights have been installed at the ground.

“The new lights were made possible with a $186,881 grant from the Stronger Country Communities Fund mid-last year and the new lights look great, completely lighting up the Northern side of the ground.

“There’s even more lighting to come after earlier this year, I gave the club my full support in their application for another $214,000 grant to light up the Southern end of the ground

“This means the Dungowan Rec Ground will be almost fully lit which is great news, not only for the Rugby League side, but for the many other users who take advantage of the great facilities.

“Sport brings communities together like nothing else and I know that is the case in Dungowan so I wish the side well this season and look forward to joining the community on the side-lines this year!”
