BOOST FOR LOCAL COUNCILS TO HOST MAJOR FESTIVALS

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has welcomed the start of works on the $1.2 million Fishers Bridge replacement in Piallamore, securing a NSW Government commitment to fix country bridges in the region.

Mr Anderson said the NSW Government has committed to replacing timber bridges across Regional NSW through Rounds 1 and 2 of the Fixing Country Bridges programs and the start of works on Fishers Bridge was welcome news for the local community.

“Timber bridges has served our communities well for generations, but now is the time to ensure they are fit for purpose for modern freight movements and community expectation.” Mr Anderson said.

“In the last two years alone, the NSW Government has announced $8.78 million towards replacing 16 bridges across the electorate, including Fishers Bridge, and we look forward to seeing these projects progress for the benefit of our communities.

“Stronger bridges mean more traffic can move across waterways and gullies and allows heavier vehicles to travel from paddock to plate, meaning greater returns for the freight industry and for farmers.

“The Fixing Country Bridges program removes a significant financial burden for council while keeping people in jobs and food on the table.

“I know how much this funding means for our smaller communities and with so few timber bridges left in the electorate, I look forward to the NSW Nationals in Government continuing to fight to replace timber bridges across regional NSW.”
