YOUNG LOCAL TALENT AWARDED
Local young musician Loren Ryan has been announced as a recipient in the NSW Government’s Regional Scholarship Program.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson today surprised Ms Ryan with the news that she is the recipient of a $10,000 NSW Young Regional Artists Scholarship.
Mr Anderson said the scholarship funds will be used to create and publicise a video film clip following Ms Ryan’s self-funded debut album.
“I am so proud of Loren for all of the hard work she puts in to her music and am excited to see how this funding will help develop her career as an artist in regional NSW.
“Young artists can often find it difficult to follow their dreams because it can be a tough industry, so I hope that this may make dreams a little more of a reality for at least one of our regions young talents.”
Ms Ryan said she intends to engage all local talent for the film clip including using indigenous dancers, an indigenous actor and a local film crew.
Mr Anderson said he hopes that Ms Ryan’s success in securing a scholarship will encourage more artists between the ages of 18 - 25 to apply for the program.
“The 2016 program is expected to become open for applications later this month and I know we have plenty of talented emerging artists in our region so I’m hoping to see a lot of applications coming in.
“I urge our talented local artists and arts workers from any art form, including dance, design, digital arts, history, Aboriginal arts, literature, music, theatre, screen and the visual arts to apply for this terrific opportunity.” Mr Anderson concluded.
