TIME TO START THE DIGGERS AT $5.38M SOUTH TAMWORTH FIRE STATION
Work will begin next week to clear and prepare the site for South Tamworth’s $5.38 million state-of-the-art, 24-hour fire station.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson joined Zone Commander, Regional North 3, Superintendent Tom Cooper, for a sod turn, that will see heavy earthmoving equipment begin clearing and shaping the site by months end.
“The first thing to go is the current brick building on the site, which will making one of the biggest fire stations in the state.
“The new station will have four bays for engines, accommodation for the 24-hour roster and will have facilities for 19 retained firefighters.
“It will also have offices and facilities for Zone 3 management staff.
“This is great news for Tamworth, I fought hard for 24/7 staffing of our fire station in Tamworth, now we’re going to have one of the best facilities in the state.
“The station will also have a conference facility that can be used as an alternative emergency operations centre.
“This is a massive project and I’m so excited to see we’re almost at the construction stage.
“Our firefighters do an outstanding job protecting their local communities from fires, emergencies and natural disasters.
“A new state-of-the-art fire station will give firefighters the facilities they need to protect this community for years to come.
“We will keep backing our firefighters to ensure they have the best resources available to keep them safe and to protect our communities as they go about their daily business.
“We are on track for this project to be completed in 2020 and I look forward to seeing the earthworks begin and the concrete being poured,” Mr Anderson concluded.
