KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: FREE DIARY TO EMPOWER OUR SENIORS - ANDERSON
Senior members of the community are urged to pick up a copy of the free 2020 Legal Topics for Older Persons Diary to help them understand their legal rights and navigate the justice system.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the 2020 Legal Topics for Older Persons Diary is a great resource for seniors in our communities across the region.
“From Werris Creek to Walcha, Gunnedah to Gowrie, Bendemeer to Barraba, this free diary is full of helpful tips and advice, including how to access the NSW Government’s cost-saving initiatives.
“Having the diary at their fingertips will make it easier for seniors to keep on top of legal issues such as scams, insurance claims and elder abuse.
“It doesn’t matter how savvy you are, dodgy operators are always looking for ways to take advantage of older people so it is vital they know what to look out for and how to protect themselves.
“Another major issue that is addressed in the Legal Aid diary is elder abuse which can take many different forms including physical, emotional, financial and neglect.
“Abuse of the elderly is distressing and it is important victims understand there are confidential and free support services available to improve their safety, and to give them the tools and confidence to report it to authorities,” Mr Anderson concluded.
Seniors will find information on investment, dating and romance scams in the diary. Scams use a variety of methods to con victims, including phishing emails and fake phone calls to steal identities or access bank accounts.
The 2020 Legal Topics for Older Persons Diary will be sent to Legal Aid offices, MPs, libraries and community organisations.
Copies of the diary can be picked up from the Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson’s Electorate Office at 13 Fitzroy Street, Tamworth.
