GS Kidd Memorial School in Gunnedah will be available for everyone to use for the summer holidays under a NSW Government initiative to broaden community recreation and open space options.

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the Come Play Summer Pilot Program will allow the broader community to utilise GS Kidd Memorial School as extra play space this summer.

“GS Kidd School is such a valuable asset to our local community and the students love using the space, so instead of locking the gate this summer, the trial program will share the space and allow people to exercise and play at their local school over the summer holiday period,” Mr Anderson said.

“The added bonus is GS Kidd School will receive a $15,000 grant to help upgrade their facilities for community and school use.

“As one of 42 trial schools I am confident that GS Kidd School will provide a great example for the rest of the state to follow.”

GS Kidd Memorial School Principal Sharne Turpin said the school is excited to participate in this program and to share their wonderful facilities with supportive community members.

“We have fantastic playground equipment and beautiful grassed areas that families will enjoy using. The grant will be used to purchase more fixed playground equipment for our students and future ‘Summer Fun’ programs.”

The school grounds will be open from 8am to 6pm from 23 December to the end of the school holidays in late January.
