Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson today announced that the NSW Government is supporting the 2016 Evocities MTB (Mountain Bike) Series, attracting some of Australia’s best riders to Tamworth.

Mr Anderson said the event will include a series of one-day mountain bike events held in each of the seven Evocities, with the Tamworth event taking place in August.

“Cycling and mountain-biking continues to grow in popularity amongst travellers looking for outdoor adventure, with more visitors than ever choosing to explore NSW on a bike.

“The Evocities MTB Series is a great addition to our regional events calendar and we are pleased that the NSW Government will be supporting this event through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW.

“Hosting events in our region provides a wonderful opportunity for visitors to enjoy our fantastic accommodation, local restaurants and exciting attractions, and we look forward to welcoming riders and spectators and showcasing all that’s on offer.”

The Series will involve several categories with each race taking place on varying course distances and terrains, to ensure that competitors seeking to win the Series are demonstrating a broad range of skills.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events and Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said not only do events like the Evocities MTB Series provide valuable support to local communities, but they help the NSW Government achieve its goal of doubling overnight visitor expenditure to the State by 2020.

“The NSW Government is committed to securing a strong year-round calendar of sporting events for Regional NSW, and the Evocities MTB Series is a great example of an event that will highlight the natural beauty in the region and showcase the array of tourism products and experiences in our State to visitors from across Australia,” Mr Ayres said.
