Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson today announced that Tamworth’s Scully Park Oval is set to become a high-quality sporting precinct with the help of a NSW Government ClubGRANTS Category 3 scheme of $500,000.

Joined by NSW Deputy Premier Troy Grant, West Tamworth League Club CEO Rod Laing and President John McClelland at Scully Park today, Mr Anderson said the development of a Regional Sporting Precinct at Scully Park could continue attracting major sporting events.

“I am pleased to announce $500,000 under the ClubGRANTS Category 3 scheme to assist West Tamworth Leagues Club with its $2.8 million project,” Mr Anderson said.

“The Scully Park Regional Sporting Precinct project involves the construction of a new state-of-the-art undercover grandstand to accommodate about 740 spectators, a new laser-levelled playing field and LED lighting towers, the refurbishment of existing amenities and the formation of a spectators' hill.

“The development will provide a facility that can be used to showcase a number of sports, including rugby league, rugby union and soccer.

“It will have new change rooms, offices, a bar and kiosk as well as media rooms and corporate suites to a standard which can be used by the A-League, NRL and Super Rugby, as well as competitions at local, state and national levels.”

Mr McClelland said the Scully Park Regional Sporting Precinct would become the premier space throughout the North West for use by the local community, community organisations and sporting groups.

“I thank the Government for their support of this exciting project that will positively contribute to Tamworth’s sporting events calendar,” Mr McClelland said.

Category 3 of the ClubGRANTS scheme was established by the NSW Government in 2011 as a direct deduction from club gaming machine profits into a state-wide funding pool for large scale community projects.

A total of $12.58 million is being allocated across NSW in 2014/15 to help build and renew community sporting, recreational and cultural facilities, with project grants ranging from $100,000 to $500,000.
