$5,000 CASH SPLASH FOR KOOTINGAL-MOONBI SWIMMING CLUB
Kootingal-Moonbi Swimming Club has received $5,000 in funding to provide a subsidised bus hire for the young swimmers to participate in carnivals and to buy marquees.
Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson said the grant came from the 2018/19 Local Sport Grant Program administered by the Office of Sport.
“Sport is a vital part of any rural or regional community.
“If we can get our kids off the couch, away from the screens and games then we’re taking a big step to help them to be healthy.
“Tackling childhood obesity and increasing regular and on-going participation in sport and active recreation for people of all ages is a NSW Government priority
“These grants will provide essential funds to local groups like the Kootingal-Moonbi Swimming Club to help them increase participation in sport and contribute to improved health.
“By subsidizing bus transport kids from Kooti and Moonbi can travel to other swimming carnivals and enjoy the benefits of competition among kids of their own age-group.
“Providing the club with marquees provides the young swimmers with sun protection as well as a rallying point when they attend carnivals out of town.
“These funds will help encourage people in the Kootingal-Moonbi community, regardless of their age or ability, to get involved in sport and active recreation,” Mr Anderson concluded.
