$30,000 ON OFFER

Visual artists at the start of their careers are being urged to apply for the NSW Government’s 2016 Visual Arts Emerging Fellowship that will provide $30,000 for a program of professional development.

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson is encouraging local visual artists to apply for the fellowship that will enable recipients to undertake activities including travel, mentorships, internships, courses, research and creating new works.

“Whether your specialty is ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, design, crafts, photography, video, filmmaking or architecture you may be able to access funding that will help continue to see your artistic abilities grow.

“We are lucky to boast a strong arts culture in our region including the sculptures at Walcha and a large number of private and public galleries, so our emerging artists are surrounded by an institution of experienced artists.

“By assisting local emerging artists we will continue to see the arts culture in our region grow which is good for locals and also good for our tourism market.”

A shortlist of up to 12 artists will be selected by an independent panel of peers managed by Arts NSW to participate in an exhibition at Artspace, Sydney from 8 November to 10 December 2016.

“This is an excellent opportunity for a local emerging visual artist to gain recognition for their work, exhibit in an internationally recognised arts centre, and receive support for their professional development,” Mr Anderson said.

Applications for the 2016 fellowship open on Wednesday, 30 March and close at 5pm on Monday, 9 May. For more information including details on how to apply, visit www.arts.nsw.gov.au.
