$100,000 BOOST TO RESTORATION PROJECT AT WALLAMORE ANABRANCH
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson today announced $100,000 for the Wallamore Road Landcare Group for their project protecting, restoring and enhancing the Wallamore Anabranch of the Peel River.
As chair of Parliamentary Friends of Landcare group, Mr Anderson said it was appropriate to announce during NSW Sustaining Landcare Week that the Anabranch is a significant flood runner of the Peel River and to date nearly $2 million in funding has been committed to this vital remediation work to enhance connectivity and biodiversity of aquatic and riparian habitat.
“I would like to congratulate the Group for successfully securing the funds under the 2017/18 round of the NSW Environmental Trust’s Restoration and Rehabilitation Grant Program.
“The proposed weed control, riparian and in-channel revegetation activities and riparian fencing will value add to similar works that have been carried out upstream and downstream of the focus project site.
“The completion of this project will create a continuous connection with nine kilometres of waterway and ten other project sites on both sides of the waterway where rehabilitation works have been fully implemented.
“Each year this grant program through the Environmental Trust continues to attract such a diversity of high quality applications, highlighting the resourceful ways that people and organisations are tackling local environmental issues.
“We know local communities have invaluable knowledge and such passion for their local bushland, wildlife, heritage and ecological sustainability.
“These grants acknowledge and support these on-ground works and together these projects form a network of environmental initiatives making a real difference.”
The 2018 Restoration and Rehabilitation Grant Program awarded 21 grants to community groups and 25 grants to government entities for a range of habitat and ecosystem restoration projects.
