$1.6 MILLION FUNDING INCREASE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF LOCAL SCHOOLS
Government schools in the Tamworth electorate will be able to improve education resources and support for students with over $20 million in needs-based funding for 2018.
The funding will be available to address the specific needs of schools. Schools may choose to implement initiatives such as targeted literacy and numeracy support, teacher training and speech pathologists.
Westdale Public School will put funding towards building staff capacity in the teaching and assessment of literacy and numeracy, providing a school learning support officer, implementing learning and support programs for Kindergarten to Year 6, providing specialist teachers for music, art, gymnastics, implementing gifted and talented programs and supporting Aboriginal education programs.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the overall increase in funding shows a commitment to our local schools from the State Government.
“We know that a one-size-fits-all approach to education simply doesn’t work which is why needs based funding is so important so we can focus on local decisions for local outcomes.
“This is about delivering high quality education to the kids who need it most.
“Our teachers and support staff do an incredible job and now with over $20 million in needs based funding we’re seeing more money hit the front line to help them get better outcomes for our children.”
The Tamworth electorate has seen a total increase of $5,643,503 in needs based funding since 2006.
