Media Releases - Kevin Anderson Media Release
NSW Nationals Leader Andrew Stoner and Nationals candidate for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said today that, if elected, a NSW Liberals & Nationals Government will commit $10 million to kick-start the roll out of overtaking lanes along the Newell Highway in its first term.- Up to $1.6 billion from Restart NSW for regional infrastructure, including fixing our degraded regional roads;
- Restoring the speed limit on the Newell Highway to 110km/hr;
- Conducting a state-wide speed zone audit; and
- $10 million to kick-start the roll out of overtaking lanes along the Newell Highway.
Mr Stoner said the NSW Liberals & Nationals would be guided by the Newell Highway Overtaking Lanes Study, once it is finalised, when determining the priority of work.
"The NSW Liberals & Nationals will provide $10 million to get the ball rolling," Andrew Stoner said.
"This is new money in addition to the RTA's $30 million safety upgrade of the Newell. This commitment is on top of up to $1.6 billion we are making available to fix regional roads.
"The NSW Liberals & Nationals are the only political parties that are serious about improving the Newell.
"Labor's answer was to drop the speed limit rather than fix the road. The NSW Liberals & Nationals will restore the speed limit and fix the road."
Nationals candidate for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said once again the NSW Liberals & Nationals were providing positive and practical solutions to the community's concerns.
"I have spoken with Barry O'Farrell and Andrew Stoner about the frustration felt among local drivers who regularly use the Newell Highway since Labor chose to drop the speed limit rather than fix the road," Mr Anderson said.
"Only the NSW Liberals & Nationals can change the mindset within State Government and deliver real solutions.
"But for this to happen, people in the Tamworth electorate need to vote for The Nationals on March 26."
