Salvo's Get The Support They Need

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson, has welcomed funding for the Salvation Army so they can continue to provide support for the community through the No Interest Loan Scheme or  NILS®.

"The Salvos have been successful in their application to receive $30 871.30 to fund costs associated with providing no interest loans," Mr Anderson said. "These loans are interest free, for essential household goods such as a washing machine or refrigerator, or domestic medical equipment.

"The loan recipient pays the loan off in twelve to eighteen months. The NILS® worker sits down with applicants and works with them to identify their needs and works a through a manageable repayment plan.

"Living out of an esky because the fridge has died or doing the family's washing by hand because you cannot afford a washing machine is something no-one should have to deal with on a daily basis. These loans assist low-income households to have the basics."

"The Salvation Army do a fantastic job, and are delivering outcomes that make a positive difference to people's lives and I am proud to be able to support them and volunteers" he said.

NILS® was founded by the Good Sheppard Youth and Family Service in Victoria in 1981 and is now the largest micro-credit network in Australia. Capital funding is provided by National Australia Bank. In NSW more than $4.3 million in NILS® loan money contributed to the state's economy in 2009 and 2010.
