DON’T DIS MY ABILITY

Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson has encouraged the local community to celebrate the diversity and achievements of people with a disability as part of the NSW Government’s Don’t DIS My ABILITY campaign.

More than 100 suburban and regional events are being held across NSW, coinciding with International Day of People with a Disability on 3 December.

“I encourage people to get involved in the events being held across the State and learn more about the contributions and achievements of people with a disability,” Mr Anderson said.

The theme for this year’s campaign is technology and independence.

“Social networking is increasingly helping people with a disability to connect and overcome isolation and be independent,” Mr Anderson said.

“It is also enabling them to access the right services to meet their specific needs, remain informed and have a say in the way disability services are delivered.”

People in Tamworth can join in the celebrations by attending the following free event.

“This campaign is about changing the misconceptions in the community surrounding disability, and building an environment that encourages active participation,” Mr Anderson said.

“I again encourage people to get involved and recognise the outstanding contributions people with a disability make to our community.”
