ANZAC COMMUNITY GRANTS OPEN

Applications are now open for the Anzac Community Grants Program.

Applications are invited for grants of up to $5,000 from ex-service organisations, community groups, schools and other educational institutions, local government, museums or historical societies.

Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson said the Anzac Community Grants Program has been established by NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell to assist young people and migrant communities develop a greater understanding of the Anzac story and the sacrifices made by Australians in war, conflict and peacekeeping.

"To fully understand the Anzac Spirit we need to look back into our nation's past. The Anzac Spirit epitomises comradeship, courage, sacrifice and putting others before oneself.

"The Program aims to promote the pride and love of life that is Australian through its youth and multicultural components." 

"Applications must be able to demonstrate how they promote understanding and recognition of the Anzac legacy and must provide benefits to young people under the age of 25 or a particular multicultural group."

Mr Anderson said "Examples of activities that may meet the grant criteria include:

• Local schools researching former students who were Anzac diggers and sharing their knowledge with the community;
• Aboriginal organisations working with Aboriginal youth to research Aboriginal involvement in Australia’s wartime history and promoting greater recognition of Aboriginal service;
• Local RSLs training veterans to visit primary schools and high schools to present age and curriculum appropriate presentations;
• Ethnic community organisations seeking to partner with host ex-service organisations laying wreaths on Anzac Day."
