Students get to have their say about Facebook and farming
School students from the Tamworth electorate are encouraged to have their say on important issues in rural communities by entering the LandLearn NSW Speech Spectacular public speaking competition.
Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson, said the best entrants will win cash prizes of up to $500.
“The LandLearn Speech Spectacular is a great opportunity for enthusiastic primary and secondary school students to gain public speaking experience and win cash prizes in the process,” Mr Anderson said.
“Entrants are required to submit a two minute MP3 audio recording of their speech addressing one of this year’s three topics by 16 December, the last day of the school term.”
Topic choices for 2011 entrants are:
- Social media is good for farmers
- Farmers can’t help climate change
- The environment is what we eat
“The best speakers from each category will be invited to speak in public on a new topic at the Dubbo Beef Spectacular in March 2012,” Mr Anderson said.
“At Dubbo, a $500 prize will be awarded to the winner of each category
“The runner-up in each category will receive $250 and the speaker deemed to be a ‘Rising Star’ will be awarded a prize of $100.
“The judging panel will consist of representatives from the NSW Department of Primary Industries, LandLearn NSW and The Land newspaper.”
Now in its third year, the Speech Spectacular is the flagship public speaking event for LandLearn NSW, the education portal for primary industries in NSW.
