Marsupial Park Calling for More Volunteers

The Friends of Marsupial Park are looking for more volunteers to assist with the running and maintenance of their improved wildlife habitat and facilities.

Marsupial Park is within the confines of the Oxley Park, Top End Brisbane Street, Tamworth, on 28 hectares of natural habitat for native animals and birds.

Whilst at the park you’ll be lucky enough to see kangaroos, possums, echidnas, emus and free roaming birds.

Kevin Anderson MP, Member for Tamworth, recently visited the Park sharing morning tea with the Friends of Marsupial Park.

"Marsupial Park is a great facility for the people of our region and the city of Tamworth. It is a relaxing environment to be in and an opportunity to experience the natural habitat of our native fauna.

"The success of the Park is a reflection of the hard work of all the volunteers."

"Marsupial Park is an interesting place for families and other groups to visit with picnic and BBQ facilities available for use."

Marlene Patmore, Secretary of the Friends of Marsupial Park said the Friends had been working hard to make improvements to the Park, with the rewards of this work also being seen. 

"The number of people visiting the park has doubled of a weekend and at school holidays, weather permitting, they are even double that again."

"Birthday parties are now being held there and BBQ facilities which are free to the public are also very popular."

"This increase in visitors to the park means, now more than ever, we are in need of extra volunteers."

"Volunteers at the park are involved in maintaining the habitat and facilities by undertaking tasks such as, weeding, watering, planting, painting and other handiwork."
