All Weather Entrance for Lake Keepit Soaring Club

Today Kevin Anderson, Member for Tamworth opened a new all weather entrance road at Lake Keepit Soaring Club that was financed under the 2010 State Governments Community Building Partnerships Program. The new bitumen sealed road replaces a dirt track that regularly became impassable during wet weather.

The Soaring Club is the only gliding Club in Australia that operates 7 days per week 52 weeks per year.  Access is vital to its operations.

The Club received a grant of $34,000 under the Community Building Partnerships Program.  This was supplemented by a gift of 500 tonnes of road base from State Water which was a by product of the Keepit Dam Upgrade project just completed.  Club members also contributed significant labour to the completion of the project.

Kevin Anderson said that “The Lake Keepit Soaring Club is an important amenity in the region which offers world class conditions for the sport of gliding.  The Club is a very successful, growing strongly and now amongst the largest in Australia.  The State Government is delighted to support its improvement”

The Club is preparing to host the World Prequalifying Grand Prix in November 2012.  It will be the first international gliding competition held at the Club and hopefully a precursor to more major competitions in the future.

Lake Keepit Soaring Club welcomes visitors and new members.  The Club has excellent facilities including 9 training and high performance gliders, accommodation, Clubhouse and Flight Centre.  It is situated on shores of beautiful Lake Keepit and has access to some of the best gliding terrain in the world.
