PRE-TENDER WORKS UNDERWAY FOR BARRABA PIPELINE
Minister for Primary Industries, Katrina Hodgkinson has signed off the paper work needed for Tamworth Regional to start the pre-tender works on the Split Rock Dam to Barraba Pipeline.
Mr Anderson said, "This is great news, this paves the way for council to commence the background work needed to get this important project underway.
"With an anticipated cost of $19.66 million the NSW Government will contribute $6.75 million being one third of the total cost.
"The pipeline will ensure locals have a safe secure supply of fresh running water as well as bring about an increase in business confidence and investment in the area.
"I look forward to seeing Barraba grow and prosper with this future water security.
Councillor Murray said the Minister’s letter was an important step forward in getting the project underway.
"Council is very pleased to have a formal written commitment from the State Government for its share of funding," he said.
"We can now start the pre tender works ahead of the official signing of a funding agreement between Tamworth Regional Council, the NSW Government, and the Federal Government. It's a complicated process but it has started.
"Council is mindful of moving things along with the pipeline for the people of Barraba in a timely way." Councillor Murray said.
Mr Anderson said "The current water situation is unsatisfactory and has continued for far too long, I am delighted to be working very closely with Council on this project and thank Councillor Murray for his tireless efforts. It is great to see that strong spirited community are closer to accessing the reliable water service it deserves because of this collaboration."
