CELEBRATE GRANDPARENTS DAY LOCALLY
Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson MP has encouraged families to celebrate the inaugural NSW Grandparents Day on Sunday October 30.
The NSW Liberals & Nationals Government is delivering on another election commitment with grandparents in NSW to be honoured with their own special day, on the last Sunday in October.
“This is an opportunity to recognise all the hard work grandparents do for their families,” Mr Anderson said.
“Grandparents are often the unsung heroes in our community, and it’s only appropriate that they are recognised with a day in their honour.”
The NSW Government has committed $1 million over four years for the introduction of this important initiative.
“The role of grandparents are now more varied and diverse than ever before, with an increasing number acting as full-time carers for loved ones,” Mr Anderson said.
“Grandparents have an invaluable role in families, enriching the lives of their grandchildren and other children in the community by providing care, mentoring and stability.”
Clubs NSW will play a key role in the inaugural NSW Grandparents Day, and will facilitate some of the events and activities at their venues.
“I hope all families can take the time to organise something special for their grandparents on the 30th of October,” Mr Anderson said.
The NSW Government is committed to ensuring that the community views its older citizens in a positive light and recognises their capacity for independence.
“NSW Grandparents Day will be just one way in which we strive to achieve that aim.”
