In recognition of her dedication and hard work in the Tamworth aboriginal community, Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has named Yvonne Kent as the 2018 Local Woman of the Year in the Tamworth electorate.
Mr Anderson said that Yvonne’s commitment to bringing positive change to the local aboriginal community through her volunteering as a mentor for youth, is always available to provide advice at any time of day or night.
“Mrs Kent is kind, caring and passionate about her community involvement and is always there to support those who need it most. Without knowing it, Yvonne provides leadership and influence amongst her peers and the younger aboriginal generations.
“I was pleased to recently surprise Yvonne with the 2018 Local Woman of the Year Award together with her family, friends and community”, Mr Anderson said.
Minister for Women Tanya Davies said the NSW Women of the Year Local Awards celebrate the contributions and successes of women who are often quiet achievers.
“The Local Awards are designed to acknowledge women who are making a significant impact in the places where we live and work, and in the lives of people around them. Local award winners exemplify the spirit of their communities,” Mrs Davies said.
