WORK PROGRESSES ON NEW TANGARATTA CREEK BRIDGE NEAR TAMWORTH

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson today said that the new $8 million Tangaratta Creek Bridge west of Tamworth remains on track for completion later this year as earthwork starts on the Oxley Highway.

Mr Anderson said earthwork has already started near the new bridge and will now be carried out close to the Oxley Highway.

“Construction of the new concrete deck and earthwork for the new bridge approach on the Tamworth side are now underway,” Mr Anderson said.

“To facilitate the next phase of earthwork scheduled to start on Wednesday 22 April, traffic will be reduced to a single lane from 7am to 6pm on weekdays and where required from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, weather permitting.

“In coming months traffic will be switched onto part of the new road.

“Up to date information, including any changes to traffic conditions will be displayed on electronic message signs along the road.”

Mr Anderson said work on the bridge, which will replace the existing Oxley Highway bridge over Tangaratta Creek, started in October last year and was on target to be completed in August, weather permitting.

“Since October, Roads and Maritime Services has made good progress on the new bridge. Piling has been completed and girders have been lifted into place and secured.

“The new bridge will bring significant benefits to the local community by improving road safety.”
