THE MAGIC FLUTE PERFORMANCE COMES TO TAMWORTH
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has announced Opera Australia’s 2014 Regional Tour of The Magic Flute is coming to Tamworth this month.
Mr Anderson said now in its 19th consecutive year of regional touring, Opera Australia will present 33 performances in 26 venues over a 10 week national tour this year.
“The Magic Flute will travel across NSW, ACT, Victoria and Tasmania, reaching over 16,000 people and can be seen at the Capitol Theatre on Wednesday 20 August.
“The Magic Flute is a new production and is described as a rollicking adventure in 1930s Egypt which will be performed in English with a chamber orchestra.
“This performance is a visionary and modern take on a classic opera.
“The Magic Flute tour across Australia provides a rare opportunity for regional audiences to engage in a major production and makes the arts and cultural experience accessible to those who might otherwise not have the opportunity.
“The NSW Government understands the importance of including performances such as The Magic Flute in regional areas as well as supporting local talent,” Mr Anderson said.
The 2014 tour will also launch two new initiatives to deepen Opera Australia’s engagement with regional communities: the Children’s Choruses and the Regional Student Scholarships.
“The tour is going one step further by engaging local primary school children in the performance by providing them the opportunity to learn songs from the opera and to meet with the professional cast which might inspire the next generation of talented performers from regional NSW.
“I applaud Opera Australia’s reach to regional communities with the Regional Student Scholarship which will provide an incredible opportunity for young students to further engage with Opera Australia with a week-long visit to Sydney.
“I am delighted The Magic Flute is touring in my electorate and look forward to welcoming the talented performers when they arrive,” Mr Anderson concluded.
