SUPPORT VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS THIS NSW RFS OPEN DAY
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson is encouraging the community to visit local volunteer brigades this weekend as part of the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Open Day this Saturday 13 September.
Mr Anderson said the RFS annual Open Day is a great chance for people to meet the volunteers who devote themselves to protecting our community from day to day.
“It’s also an excellent opportunity to learn how to be better prepared for the possibility of bushfires.
“Residents will be given the opportunity to understand the bushfire risk in their area and how they can prepare themselves, their houses and their families.
“I also encourage the community to consider joining the NSW RFS and to use Open Day as a chance to find out more about the different roles available,” Mr Anderson said.
The NSW RFS is the world’s largest volunteer firefighting agency with 74,000 volunteers. There has been a recent increase in numbers, but more volunteers are always needed to keep our communities safe.
Mr Anderson said there’ll be something for everyone who drops in to one of our local brigade stations this Saturday.
“Many brigades will hold demonstrations, showing the public their firefighting skills and the important role they play during emergencies.
“There will also be the opportunity to climb on a fire truck, get advice on preparing your property, completing your Bush Fire Survival Plan or have photos taken with our local firefighters.
“I encourage all local residents to get along to the NSW RFS Open Day, join in the fun and thank our NSW RFS volunteers for the invaluable work they do,” Mr Anderson concluded.
