STEPH SHINES AS LOCAL WOMAN OF THE YEAR
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has congratulated Tamworth woman Stephanie Cameron who has been named as 2016 Local Woman of the Year.
Mr Anderson said Ms Cameron was selected as the local woman of the year because she is a remarkable and inspiring woman who contributes greatly to the local community.
“Stephanie is passionate about her community and the environment and has given a lot to the community through her involvement with Landcare at all levels, both grass roots and the associated regional and state-wide bodies.
“Caring for the environment is important and I’m thankful that we have local people like Stephanie who are able to lead the way in protecting and improving our local environment.
“Stephanie is a role model for women not just in this region but also to women right across country NSW and I am proud to award her the Local Woman of the Year Award.
“The NSW Women of The Year Awards are a great opportunity to recognise women like Stephanie who make a difference in their local community.
“Often women who dedicate a lot of time to volunteer work aren’t recognised for the contribution they make to our community so these awards are a chance to do that.”
Mr Anderson was joined by NSW Premier Mike Baird and Minister for Women Pru Goward this week to congratulate Ms Cameron at the NSW Regional Women of the Year Awards in Sydney.
Ms Cameron said she is humbled to have received the award and encourages more women to become involved in community volunteer programs like Landcare.
“I care about the environment and care about the state for future generations so I decided I need to do something about it. Landcare and Sustainable Northwest have helped me make a contribution.
“All of the small things that we do add up so I encourage others to become involved by getting in contact with the Tamworth Regional Landcare Association.”
Mr Anderson said he is looking forward to working with Ms Cameron on local environmental issues in to the future.
