REGIONAL FLAGSHIP FUNDING ON OFFER FOR EVENTS IN TAMWORTH ELECTORATE
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson is encouraging event organisers in the Tamworth region to lodge expressions of interest for grants now open under the Government’s 2015 NSW Regional Flagship Events Program.
Mr Anderson said the Program, administered by the State’s tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, provides one year grants of $10,000 and three year grants totalling $60,000 to support the marketing and advertising of regional events and festivals to outside visitors.
“Events play an important role in our region’s visitor economy, helping attract people to the area and also showcasing what is unique and wonderful about our region.
“The Regional Flagship Events Program is a fantastic opportunity for local event organisers to apply for some extra funding to attract attendees from further afield and help develop their event.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism and Major Events Andrew Stoner said regional events and festivals are important contributors to driving overnight visitors to NSW.
“Last year Regional NSW delivered an impressive 74 million nights of accommodation and $9.8 billion in visitor expenditure and regional events play an important role in helping us achieve these results,” Mr Stoner said.
“Since March 2011, the NSW Government has provided more than $1.5 million in direct funding to 125 events under the Regional Flagship Events program, helping to encourage interstate and international visitors to come to NSW,” he said.
Expressions of interest for the 2015 Regional Flagship Events Program are open until 1 September, and successful applicants will be invited to make full submissions later in the year.
Full submissions are assessed by an expert advisory panel according to set criteria, with successful applicants to be advised in December 2014.
