NEW SIGNALS ON WAY FOR BUSY TAMWORTH INTERSECTION
Pedestrian safety is a priority in Tamworth and the installation of new traffic signals at the Marius and Fitzroy streets intersection will make this area safer, Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said.
Mr Anderson said the intersection upgrade will involve removing the existing roundabout and replacing it with traffic lights.
“This end of Marius Street is one of the busiest roads in Tamworth, with thousands of motorists using it daily.
“A large number of pedestrians also cross Marius Street at this location and the installation of traffic lights will ensure office workers, shoppers and visitors to Tamworth can safely cross the road to the nearby shopping centre, offices, police station and other facilities.
“Upgrading the intersection of Marius and Fitzroy streets at Tamworth has long been talked about and now thanks to this investment, it will soon be a reality.”
“The installation of the new signals will take place next month and would allow the mid-block crossing on Marius Street, between Fitzroy and White streets, to be removed.
“Early work will start mid-June and involve placing new road pavement in preparation for the intersection upgrade.
“When the early work is complete, a temporary roundabout will be reinstalled until work on the intersection upgrade begins later this year.
“This is another example of the work and effort in continuing to upgrade our roads and to make them safer,” Mr Anderson concluded.
