LOCAL HERO HONOURED AT WOMEN IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AWARDS

Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson has congratulated local inspiration Gae Swain on being recognised at the 2015 Women in Local Government Awards.

Gae is the Deputy Mayor at Gunnedah Shire Council and received the Award for Elected Representative from a Rural or Regional Council from Minister for Local Government Paul Toole and Minister for Women Pru Goward at NSW Parliament House today.

“Gae has served our community for more than 20 years on the Council. She was the first, and only, female elected Mayor in the area in over 100 years of local government, and is the longest serving Mayor in the Council’s history” Mr Anderson said.

“Gae is passionate about her town, and dedicated and committed to increasing women’s representation on Council – there are now four female councillors.

“From a strong field of nominees, covering a diverse range of skills, Gae’s dedication has seen her rewarded.

“She is truly an inspiration to the entire community”.

The Women in Local Government Awards were established to recognise the outstanding contributions and achievements of women in local government.
