LOCAL GOVERNMENT WEEK 2015
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson today encouraged the Tamworth Electorate to take part in Local Government Week 2015, which runs from 3 August to 9 August.
Mr Anderson said that Local Government Week highlights the importance of local councils and the range of essential services they provide to the region.
“The Tamworth electorate is made up of Tamworth Regional Council, Gunnedah Shire Council, Walcha Shire Council and Liverpool Plains Shire Council, all of which have tailored essential services reflecting the needs of their residents.
“Local Government is involved areas such as animal and environmental management, planning, parking, local roads and bridges and recreation centres.
“Local Government week provides an opportunity for the community to take a closer look at their council and the services and facilities they provide” Mr Anderson said.
This year’s theme “Active All Areas” aims to highlight the various age groups, cultures and religious groups Councils work with.
Events around the electorate this week include visits to Barraba Central, Manilla Central, Woolomin Public and Tamworth High Schools by Tamworth Regional Council, and a cartoon map, book exchange, great debate and BBQ organised by Gunnedah Shire Council. For more information on scheduled events please contact your local council.
The highlight of Local Government Week is the Local Government Awards Evening on 6 August.
