LOCALS ENCOURAGED TO APPLY FOR NURSING SCHOLARSHIPS
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson is urging local school leavers and people thinking of a career change to take advantage of 350 NSW Government scholarships for the 2016 Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled Nurse) Program.
Scholarship holders may have the opportunity to train locally with TAFE New England offering the popular course which combines block attendance using state of the art facilities at the Gunnedah campus, online learning and practical experience.
Mr Anderson said as well as training locally, students will have the chance to undertake 400 hours of clinical placement within our local health system.
"Enrolled Nurses make up a very important part of our health system across a wide range of areas including acute hospital wards, aged care facilities, operating theatres, paediatrics and mental health units.
"These scholarships give students an opportunity to access training which importantly can lead directly to a job offer at a NSW Public Hospital.
"Nursing takes a very special kind of person. It requires caring, compassion and a willingness to put others needs first and I believe these are qualities that regional people can relate to.
TAFE New England Institute Director Peter Heilbuth said "This is great news for local health care providers as we pride ourselves on being able to deliver the best training in state of the art facilities to our students and their future employees"
"Students who have an interest in working within our healthcare system and pursuing a career in this important industry should contact their nearest TAFE New England campus now to discuss their training options, and the scholarship opportunities available in 2016."
Applications close on February 10. Successful applicants will commence their Diploma from April 2016. The program runs for between 12 and 18 months. For more information go to: http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/nursing/scholarship/Pages/enrolled-nurse-scholarships.aspx
