LOCAL ICE ACTION GROUP TO HAVE FIRST MEETING
The Tamworth Ice Action Group will meet for the first time tomorrow following the ‘Ice Forum’ hosted by Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson in January this year.
Mr Anderson said representatives from each organisation that attended the ice forum have been invited to join the group which will consist of 16 members.
“I am excited to get started on what will be a big job ahead of us and I know that with the help of the Ice Action Group we will be able to make some important changes to how we address ‘ice’ issues in our community.
“We know the devastating effects ‘ice’ can have on families and the wider community, we hear the horrifying stories of our emergency services coming in to contact with the drug on a regular basis and we know that now is the time for action and change.
“In our first meeting we will be looking at the capabilities of our local organisations and what they have to offer, discussing our key focus areas of education, support and rehabilitation, and working on an action plan.
“It was clear from the forum held with the Deputy Premier Troy Grant in January that we need a whole of community approach to provide a local solution for this problem.
“Ice is the greatest challenge facing our community in the war against drugs and no one is immune to the often horrific impacts.
“I have confidence the Ice Action Group will be instrumental in implementing the change that is needed to combat the spread of ‘ice’ in our community,” Mr Anderson concluded.
