LOCAL FUNDING HITS THE PAVEMENT

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson today announced a major boost to walking and cycling connections in Manilla and Tamworth thanks to a $243,500 investment by the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government.

Mr Anderson said the funding will help provide more opportunities for people to cycle and walk, improve safety for pedestrians and bicycle riders, and encourage more people to get active

“I am pleased our community will benefit from this funding injection, with three projects in the region to be delivered in partnership with local councils.”

Projects to be funded include:

  • Constructing a 400m section of the Manilla Road Cycleway, Tamworth
  • Design of a 2.6km cycleway along Forest Road, Tamworth
  • Construction of kerb ramps between Progress Lane and Namoi Street, Manilla

Mr Anderson said with cycling more popular than ever before and walking trips on the rise, the NSW Government was providing the infrastructure needed to support local communities.

“These projects will provide a huge boost for residents and businesses –providing better connections between local suburbs and safer options for travel by bike or foot.

“If we want to encourage more people to leave the car at home and get active, we need to provide access to safe, convenient and connected waking and cycling networks.

“This investment is about connecting people and places and making a difference to the way residents move around their communities.”

Transport for NSW and Roads and Maritime Services will now work with local councils across the state on the delivery of each project.
