INVESTING IN QUALITY TEACHING IN THE TAMWORTH ELECTORATE
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has welcomed the launch of a major new investment which will enable some of the best local public primary school teachers to mentor and coach other teachers, improving the results of students in the Tamworth electorate.
Mr Anderson said the Quality Teaching, Successful Students package begins this term and will benefit 18 schools in the Tamworth electorate.
“It is great to see schools in the Tamworth electorate benefit from this program by improving the skills of our teachers as it will help our students achieve better results.
“In line with the Local Schools, Local Decisions education reform, principals, who are the best placed to make decisions about their schools, will determine how to use this new staffing resource,” Mr Anderson said.
The program will enable selected teachers to:
- Mentor and coach other teachers;
- Observe teachers in their classrooms and demonstrate effective teaching strategies;
- Monitor student performance data across the school to ensure teachers are focused on areas of need; and
- Collaborate within their school and with colleagues in other schools.
“This initiative, made possible by NSW signing up to the Gonski agreement, gives schools an opportunity they have been seeking for years, to use their best, most experienced teachers to improve teaching and learning in every classroom.
“Investing in education is part of my strong plan for our future and assists in building a better region by giving our children access to quality education,” Mr Anderson said.
Director Public Schools NSW Tamworth Network Ruythe Dufty said the support given to schools will increase their capacity to support teachers with quality teaching initiatives.
