HI-DEF EYES ON LOCAL TRAIN STATIONS
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has today met with staff at Gunnedah Railway station to discuss new plans for the extra high definition CCTV cameras at Gunnedah in a bid to strengthen security at local public transport depots.
Mr Anderson said the CCTV will be installed at Gunnedah and Tamworth with the safety of passengers travelling to and from our a big priority as always.
“We see a large number of passengers using the railway terminals to get to and from Tamworth and Gunnedah and it’s important that we continually look at new ways to improve safety for everyone travelling on trains and busses.”
Deputy Mayor of Gunnedah Shire Council Gae Swain welcomed the initiative saying that the news will provide piece of mind to travellers.
“Most of the travellers on our regional trains are elderly and vulnerable people and to be at the station knowing that the CCTV cameras are monitoring your safety will help ease people’s minds.” Mrs Swain said.
Mr Anderson said “As well as high definition CCTV cameras both stations will see the installation of Customer Help Points which when pressed will connect customers to a 24/7 emergency support centre where real-time assistance can be provided.
“Once a customer presses the Customer Help Point, the motion-sensitive CCTV cameras will send the vision straight back to the person helping the customer.”
“The installation of the CCTV cameras and Customer Help Points will be rolled out in the coming weeks.
“I thank the local staff at our railway stations that do a fantastic job maintaining the buildings and platforms to a high level and this added security will make sure that they stay that way.” Mr Anderson concluded.
