GUNNEDAH HOSPITAL REFURBISHMENT SOARS AHEAD
The much needed refurbishment of the Gunnedah Hospital is progressing with the replacement of the roof of the administration and community health block now complete.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson toured the site today and said he is keen to see the next stage of work commence.
“This work is part of my $2million election commitment to refurbish Gunnedah Hospital and the replacement of the roof at the community health building was an important part of that so it’s fantastic to see this work completed.
“The next step in the process will be to finalise the designs for the Clinical Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) and the operating theatre so that the construction tender can be released.
“Many people in the Gunnedah community had spoken with me about the need to improve Gunnedah Hospital which is why I fought hard for money to be allocated so we could ensure better services are delivered.
“These upgrades are well deserved as the community has worked hard to fundraise for improvements to the site over the years. This hospital sits at the heart of the Gunnedah community and I know how much the residents appreciate our commitment to delivering the best health services.
“Gunnedah is a growing a community and we need to provide the facilities to match that growth.
“This upgrade is part of my health plan for a strong future as we work towards building a better region.
“Gunnedah plays a very important role in our region and I will continue to work hard on behalf of Gunnedah to make sure we get our fair share of investment.”
Mr Anderson said construction for the upgrades of the current CSSD and extension to the operating theatre is expected to begin this year.
The final stage of the refurbishment will see an upgrade to the kitchen with design documentation expected to be finalised in the coming months and construction to begin in 2017.
