DANGEROUS INTERSECTION MUST BE FIXED
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson today called for the urgent upgrade of the intersection of Meadows Lane Tamworth and the New England Highway.
Mr Anderson said he has received many calls from residents and motorists who have complained about how dangerous this intersection is.
“This is not acceptable – this is a dangerous intersection and it needs to be fixed,” Mr Anderson said.
“Particularly when trying to turn right from the highway into Meadows Lane, vehicles are forced to stop in the middle of the highway and wait for oncoming traffic to clear before turning right.
“This causes major safety concerns when vehicles travelling south at 100 kilometres per hour are forced to move off the highway to avoid the vehicle stopped in the middle of the road.”
Mr Anderson said he has raised this issue with Roads and Maritime Services, which has since inspected the site and undertaken preliminary work to make this road safer.
“RMS has agreed that the intersection needs fixing, and is now working through timeframes and costings,” he said.
“That includes building a slip lane so vehicles travelling south can move safely past the vehicle waiting to turn right.
“I will keep pushing to secure the funding to make this work happen.”
Local Meadows Lane resident Rodger Grant welcomed the push to fix the intersection.
“Fixing this intersection is a priority to avoid a serious accident – I’m pleased Kevin is taking up this fight,” Mr Grant said.
