COUNCILS ENCOURAGED TO APPLY FOR ROUND TWO RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP GRANTS

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has today encouraged local councils to get involved in round two of the Responsible Pet Ownership Grants Program.

Mr Anderson said that individual councils would have the opportunity to apply for grants of up to $15,000, while collaborative council projects could receive up to $50,000.

“The Responsible Pet Ownership Program supports local councils to tackle important issues such as reducing the risk of dog attacks and protecting the community from menacing and dangerous dogs,” Mr Anderson said.

“For pet owners in our community, the Program may also provide the opportunity to assist with registration and give pet owners access to subsidised de sexing and micro chipping.”

“It great to see that the NSW Government has committed $900,000 over three years towards this important Program.”

In round one of the Program successful applications included subsidised micro chipping and de sexing for low income families as well as educational programs teaching children about how to approach animals in parks and in the community.

“Following the creative thinking of councils in round one, it is encouraging to see what they will put forward in this next round of applications,” Mr Anderson said.

The closing date for round two applications is Friday, 26 June 2015.
