CONSTRUCTION STARTS ON NEXT GUNNEDAH HOSPITAL UPGRADE

Construction work on the Gunnedah Hospital Clinical Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) commenced today as part of the $2million Gunnedah Hospital upgrade.

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the works will see an extension and upgrade of the current CSSD to a new fully compliant processing area. The operating theatre will also be extended to allow for more room.

“It’s great to see work on the hospital upgrade continuing. We said at the last election that we would continue to carry out improvement works on the Gunnedah Hospital and today we continue to deliver on that promise.

“This element of the upgrades is valued at over $1million, so it makes up a significant part of the budget that has been allocated for upgrades to Gunnedah Hospital.

“All things going to plan we should see this work completed by mid-2017.”

Mr Anderson said tenders for the new kitchen construction will be released shortly with the aim of starting construction in early 2017.

“The next stage of works will see the kitchen replaced and extended which will be a welcome upgrade for the hospital staff.

“These upgrades are well deserved as the community has worked hard to fundraise for improvements to the site over the years. This hospital sits at the heart of the Gunnedah community and I know how much the residents appreciate our commitment to delivering the best health services.

“Gunnedah is a growing community and we need to provide the facilities to match that growth.

“This upgrade is part of my health plan for a strong future as we work towards building a better region.

“Gunnedah plays a very important role in our region and I will continue to work hard on behalf of Gunnedah to make sure we get our fair share of investment,” Mr Anderson concluded.
