CHRISTMAS FUNDING BOOST FOR OUR ROADS-BRIDGES-TRUCK WASHES

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has announced a massive funding boost for regional roads, bridges and truck washes just in time for Christmas.

Mr Anderson said nearly $2.5 million has been awarded under the Fixing Country Roads program.

“Four projects across the Tamworth Electorate were successful including Walcha Shire Council with 2 projects, the Niangala Road Bridge replacement $234,050 and the Wollun Road Bridge replacement with $311,375.

“In Tamworth $603,971 has been allocated to the Tamworth Regional Livestock Exchange Truck Wash upgrade through the Tamworth Regional Council.

“Gunnedah Shire Council has been successful in their bid to upgrade Bloomfield Street for Higher Mass Vehicles with a $1.5 million grant towards a $4m project.

“This investment will significantly reduce costs to business and industry, while driving economic growth and improving the lives of people across the state.

“Economic growth in rural areas relies on agricultural commodities, industrial products and natural resources being able to move to market efficiently,” Mr Anderson said.

Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight Melinda Pavey, said that safe and reliable roads are essential to maintaining our standard of living and will continue to be a priority for the NSW Government.

“Regional NSW produces around 210 million tonnes of freight a year, with freight volume expected to increase by 25 per cent over the next 40 years.

“That is why the Government is investing a further $92 million towards the Fixing Country Roads program targeting significant regional projects.” Mrs Pavey said

Mr Anderson said “some of the Fixing Country Roads projects in our region were jointly funded, with local councils and the Federal Government contributing.
