CHANGING LIVES THROUGH LEARNING WITH TAFE OPEN DAY ON SATURDAY

There is no better time to consider study at TAFE NSW with the recent announcement of 100,000 fee-free apprenticeships and Smart and Skilled funded courses, Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said.

Mr Anderson is inviting school leavers in the region to attend a hands-on open day at the TAFE New England Tamworth campus on Saturday, 18 August. The campus is one of 16 sites across the state opening its doors to the public.

“School leavers across the state are getting ready to tackle their study books so a visit to TAFE NSW could give a taste of vocational training and education options for next year.
“There are more than half a million new jobs in the pipeline right now that require doing, not just knowing.
“Courses for nine of the 10 most in-demand jobs are already being delivered by TAFE NSW. Visitors can learn more about how studying one of more than 1,200 courses at TAFE NSW can turbocharge their career.
“TAFE NSW students are in high demand because of the quality of their education and ability to hit the ground running with the job-ready skills that employers are looking for.

“As part of the NSW Government’s commitment in this region, we have announced $1.2 million to upgrade the Gunnedah TAFE campus. TAFE NSW is rolling out an unprecedented number of new courses in Gunnedah for semester two, 2018.

“The addition of six new offerings, on top of the 33 courses already available locally and hundreds more available through TAFE Digital was a huge step in the right direction.
“Last April TAFE NSW officially launched its new SkillsPoint headquarters in Tamworth, which will oversee the development of courses for Aboriginal languages, career pathways and employable skills. The SkillsPoint comes with 13-full time staff and is one of nine in the state.
“In April 2016 vocational education and training students in New England benefited from an $11.3 million upgrade to the TAFE facilities in Tamworth.
“The open day will provide prospective students with an invaluable opportunity to explore the innovative range of course options, meet with award winning teachers and explore the practical, hands-on facilities at TAFE NSW,” Mr Anderson concluded.
