FUNDING FLOWS FOR TAMWORTH
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has welcomed strong investment from the NSW Government for projects in Tamworth following the release of the 2016 NSW State Budget today.
Mr Anderson said that it is clear from today’s budget that the NSW Government continues to acknowledge the role Tamworth plays in the state’s economy.
“Today’s budget continues to reflect my commitment to build a better region with funding announced for key projects within the electorate.
“Key areas of interest for the community like health, transport and education are at the centre of this year’s budget for Tamworth.
“I’m pleased to announce that Farrer High School will receive an upgrade to the boarding accommodation with the tender process due to commence soon.
Other projects for Tamworth that have received funding in this year’s budget include:
$5.798million for continuing works on the Tamworth Hospital redevelopment
$2.5million to upgrade Manilla Road between Tribe Street and Jewry Street
- < > for local council roads maintenance
$955,000 for Oxley Community Transport services
A share of $1.664million for social housing upgrades
“A key focus for the Tamworth is our investment in road networks. There’s nothing worse for a local economy than roads and bridges not being up to the task of carrying freight in an efficient and cost effective manner.
“Manilla Road has had a long standing problem with congestion especially between Tribe and Jewry Streets so I am pleased to see money come forward to upgrade this stretch of road so that safety will be increased for all road users.
“This is a strong budget for Tamworth with funding coming through for important projects that will grow our city and our region.
“I’m focussed on building a better region to create jobs, encourage further investment and keep our local economy strong, so that we can create a positive impact on the lives of those who live in Tamworth,” Mr Anderson concluded.
