BRAND NEW MOTORCYCLE EVENT EXPECTED TO INJECT $1.7 MILLION IN WALCHA
A brand new, three-day motorcycle festival is expected to inject more than $1.7 million into local hotels, shops and other attractions in Walcha later this year.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said The Freak Show Festival of Motorcycles will attract motorcycle owners and enthusiasts from across the country, helping to put the town of Walcha on the map.
“This is great news for Walcha that such an exciting event has been secured for the New England region, thanks to the hard work of local volunteers with significant financial support of the NSW Government.
“Walcha is known for being popular with motorcycle tourists. I can’t think of a better destination with local tourism businesses in the region also set to benefit when we welcome thousands of additional visitors.
“The New England High Country region is home to three of the State’s noted motorcycle touring routes including the Oxley Highway between Port Macquarie and Walcha, the Waterfall Way between Bellingen and Armidale, and the Thunderbolt Way between Gloucester and Walcha.
“I encourage all motorbike enthusiasts and those wanting to take a short-break to plan a trip to Walcha to experience this exciting Australian-first event,” Mr Anderson concluded.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events and Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall said this announcement confirms NSW’s place as Australia’s favourite State for hosting exciting new events.
“NSW is unquestionably Australia’s events capital and to have this major motorcycle event hosted in New England for the very first time is a major coup,” Mr Marshall said.
“The event is expected to attract more than 2,300 overnight visitors and deliver more than $1.7 million in visitor expenditure, so the festival will provide a significant boost to the local visitor economy while highlighting New England’s beautiful natural setting.
The inaugural Freak Show Festival of Motorcycles is expected to take place in November 2019 and has been secured by the NSW Government. The event will feature custom motorbikes and street parades, competitions, trade displays, an outdoor cinema, motorcycle events, jumps and displays, curious entertainments and much more.
