APPLICATIONS FOR 2016 RURAL WOMEN’S AWARD NOW OPEN
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson is encouraging the community to nominate women who make an invaluable contribution to our regions for the 2016 NSW ACT RIRDC Corporation Rural Women’s Award.
Mr Anderson said nominations are now open for the award that celebrates and recognises inspiring women who live and work in regional NSW.
“This award recognises thought leaders working in primary industries and in our rural communities”, Mr Anderson said.
“There are passionate, inspiring and highly-skilled women doing great things in our own communities, and this is an opportunity to recognise the impact they are having”.
“If you know one of these women, I urge you to nominate them yourself, or encourage them apply for this great opportunity.
Applications are now open and close on Friday 30 October 2015, with the winner announced at a Gala Dinner in March 2016.
The NSW/ACT winner will receive a bursary of $10,000 and have the opportunity to participate in the RIRDC Australian Institute of Company Directors’ course.
The 2013 NSW/ACT winner was Isobel Knight from Loomberah, who owns and manages a grazing and marketing business with her husband and also established proagtive, a business that specialises in succession planning for family farm businesses. Isobel went on to be named RIRDC National Runner-up for 2015.
Mrs Knight said participating in the award helped to raise both her personal profile, as well as the awareness and profile of farm succession planning.
“I would never have described myself as a leader, but I can represent the voice of our rural communities, and we need more diversity in the rural voice. As a busy person with a family, running a business, and trying to build that business – being part of the award helped to build a network that I otherwise wouldn’t have” Mrs Knight said.
Proagtive’s online succession planning tool is currently being developed using the bursary from the award, and will launch late 2015.
